STEVIA – WHAT IS IT?
I have recently discovered stevia and believe this is the answer to the ultimate sugar alternative. Stevia is 300 times sweeter than sugar yet is good for you! This seems too good to be true but I have tried it in cakes, puddings and rice dishes and absolutely love it.
Stevia is a completely natural food coming from the leaves of the stevia plant which grows in the wild from western North America to South America. The leaves are naturally sweet and the plant is sometimes called ‘sweetleaf’ or ‘sugarleaf’. It has been used for many years as a sweetener in Japan, replacing sugar in fizzy drinks and in many food products.
My question is why can’t it replace sugar in all food and drink products everywhere?
A lot of us have a sweet tooth but sugar has many detrimental effects on the body and mind and it is often the hidden ingredient in a vast array of food and drink products. You may think that a little sugar here and there does not do any harm, but all these small quantities add up to big amounts at the end of the day.
Our bodies and minds are here to serve us in our daily work, tasks and activities during the day; if they do not work to the optimum we are loosing out. We cannot be our full potentiality. Therefore we need sustenance for our health and well being to help us be who we truly are in the world and to follow our divine life paths, whatever they may be.
Perhaps it is not emphasized enough how harmful sugar can be to the body and mind but here are some of the detrimental effects it has:

CAN CONSIDERABLY WORSEN THE EFFECTS OF ADD IN CHILDREN

So why eat sugar? Why eat something and have it in so many food products that it is difficult to avoid (in the West)?
Most sugar substitutes are also bad for the health such as saccharin which was declared a carcinogen in the 1970’s.

IT WOULD APPEAR THAT MANY OF THE HARMFUL EFFECTS OF SUGAR HAVE THE OPPOSITE POSITIVE AND HEALING EFFECTS WITH STEVIA!
I believe we should make a move towards a greater use of stevia in the west as a sugar alternative and aim for health rather than addiction to a substance which is not helping us on any level.
I regularly buy a small packet of GREEN stevia powder from a local health food shop which only costs around 38p (UK) which is an extremely cheap food source. If you can get the pure natural green powder that is far better than the processed white powder which may in fact have harmful effects.
I now realise there is much more I can use this amazing sugar alternative for and perhaps I will now wash my hair with it too!
